Hi, Mastodon, can you help me out?

My dad's Windows 7 (pirated version I got from one of my uni profs who has been dead for almost 13 years) died last year. His laptop is an old one I once won in a computer store giveaway. Windows 11 won't work on it.

So I reinstalled Windows 7, but ran into a lot of issues that basically make it impossible for him to work, I'm too technically inept to solve and my only skill, searching the internet for error messages and following instructions isn't helping.

So, after getting him to play a bit with Ubuntu/ LibreOffice, discussing MS Office compat issues we eventually decided to install Linux.

Here is where I need help.

I use Ubuntu because it's the most widely used.

But is there a better/ friendlier option for someone who has never used any OS other than Windows, doesn't have the patience to learn? + needs to work on > 10 year old laptop.

Thanks!
