i wonder how they get such good sound out of those lavalier mics in all the tv shows and presentation places. i tried one of those mics before and the sound quality was ass and it picked up everything in the building.

@MagicLike i think mine was omnidirectional. it was supposed to go with an olympus recorder. it worked, but you're definitely gonna pick up the whole meeting room.

The idea is that it is placed very close to your mouth (and it's directional). Also, a lot depends on the accoustics of the room.
