It's funny how people think Twitter is dying now that people are 'migrating' to Mastodon since Elon Musk has taken over. Litte do they know Twitter is close to releasing a Mastodon-esque decentralised platform. Watch out for Bluesky.

@wadhwanisumeet

That's impossible. If they do it will be owned or controlled by a company. The Fediverse and Mastodon are not owned or controlled by any single entity.

@Pat you're right. Except, Bluesky is not owned by Twitter but the Bluesky team itself.

I have no idea what Bluesky is, but if it's funded by Twitter, then they own it, whether it's structured as a non-profit or not.

@Pat It is an interesting development. They are building protocols for developers to build social platforms and other stuff, and bring content interoperability. Dorsey funded it with $13 million a while back. Made sure Twitter would have no controlling stake in it (possibly cause of the turbulence he faced when he was CEO).

You could argue that since it is still owned by someone (the Bluesky team), it could be acquired by someone, say Musk.

And unless it is made a non-profit entity like W3C's ActivityPub, it can't be ruled out that Bluesky will end up with a corporation. Will have to wait and watch.
