I'm considering moving to a new instance. I'd love to find a place focused on discussing writing, #indiePublishing, and book marketing. (I just don't want to get swamped with book ads.)

Just make sure you pick one that doesn't block a lot of other instances for trivial reasons, that way you can still look at their federated feed every so often and not miss out on non-writing related stuff.

Bottom line, when evaluating a new instance, one thing to consider is how many other instances they block. The fewer they block, the better.
Also, make sure you copy your current mute/block list to use at the new instance.
