"台山核電廠是全球第一個採用法國科技的歐洲壓水式反應爐（簡稱EPR）核電廠。2016年4月，法國核安全局發現台山核電廠的承建商、法國阿海琺（Areva）公司使用的反應爐壓力容器不及格，其容器頂蓋及底部的碳含量達到0.3%，大幅超出法定標準36%，使容器韌性不足，在承受極高溫度及壓力時容易脆裂，導致核洩漏。當時芬蘭及法國興建中的EPR核電站隨即停工，但中國當局無視，繼續工程，務求成為世界第一間使用該組件及技術的核電廠。
2016年5月，法國核安全局在調查過程中，發現問題越滾越大，當時Areva提交報告，承認自1965年起的51年間，有大約400件組件安全測試不當，包括測試結果和函數被修改（modifications）、被省略（omissions），或資料不一致（inconsistencies），當時英國《每日電訊報》更直接以「造假」（falsified）來形容這起事件。"
