因此美國空軍將領表示，第六代戰機可能具備不同的構型，包括有人的傳統式戰機、無人機，或是可自由選擇是否由飛行員駕駛的無人機，這一系列戰機將在最後視情況，決定是否量產。這也暗示了未來的美國空軍作戰部隊，可能是由少數幾架由飛行員操控的第六代戰機，指揮無人駕駛的第六代戰機，搭配更多的無人忠誠僚機，並在飛抵戰區上空後，釋放更多的小型無人機，做為整個攻擊機隊的外圍耳目。"

For a fixed-wing drone, that might mean burning one of the wings off. A laser could down a quadcopter-style drone by melting a plastic or metal arm supporting one of its propellers. "隨著人工智慧的快速發展，採用具備人工智慧的「無人載具母艦」，發射以人工智慧操控的無人載具，勢必成為下階段的關鍵方向。甚至隨著軍用無人地面載具的進步，接下來出現能自行接戰的機器人，這些都應只是時間早晚的問題。美國空軍日前才剛剛測試機械狗，而該公司還發展出配備自動機槍的機械狗。未來無人裝甲車搭載大批機械狗，自行駛入戰區，放出機械狗進行偵察或作戰，將不再只是電影情節，而是這種「無人載具母艦」概念的真實應用。
「以機械取代人力」這句話，即將逐漸成真。人類會在戰場上退居第二線，而將最危險的工作，交給無人機、無人船艦、戰鬥機器人，與搭載這些軍用戰鬥載具的智慧化母艦。這代表工業實力，將徹底決定戰場上的勝負，部隊規模的大小已不再重要。"

The congressionally directed testing included 100 hours of pre-testing before the 720-hour demonstration phase commenced. During the demonstration phase, no human intervention and no preventative or corrective maintenance on the equipment was allowed.”
