When I read articles about kindness (and I believe we would all benefit from more kindness in the world), I do end up pondering exactly what kindness is.

E.g. I would say holding a door for someone (one of the examples in this article) is polite, rather than kind, per se.

@OrbitalGardens For me, I don't think about the distinction between kindness and politeness. I cultivate, "this is the person I want to be, this is how that person behaves" and set that standard as a guide for behavior in general and attempt to ingrain that as a habit. There may be a difference, but as a pattern of behavior, I don't think about it.
