Wendy Carlos is a founder of #ElectronicMusic. Her ability to explain this complex topic so clearly is evidence of her undeniable genius.

I’ve loved “Switched on Bach” since my dad introduced me to it as a child. Amazing to find out about its creator’s history as a #LGBTQ elder.

(In this BBC clip, Wendy had already begun to transition and wears fake sideburns to pass as her AGAB out of fear.)

Wendy also did the music for many films, including “A Clockwork Orange” (1971) and “The Shining” (1980).

I mean: OF COURSE ELECTRONIC MUSIC IS BASED ON WAVE SHAPE.

That makes perfect sense once she explains and demonstrates. Because sounds are waves.

I’ve simply never heard or read anyone break it down like that. Wonderful stuff.

The video clip is worth your time. I promise.

@leahmcelrath Do you know if she is well? It's been ages since she updated her website, and she's... not so young. 😢

@Romaq I didn’t see much in the way of updates when I did my search. Wiki lists her as still alive though.

@leahmcelrath wendycarlos.com/ is a wonderful resource, but she stopped updating and I would not be surprised if she has become too frail to continue Eclipse Chasing as she had done in the past. My mom had Switched-on Bach, I've no idea where it vanished to. I then encountered her music again with Tron. It was the very first time I had known of someone not cross-dressing, but transitioning from cis-male to trans-female. I loved the music, but even then as a Christian, I understood it was her life, not mine.

I've dropped the Christian faith, but found my inner core value, "its not my life to decide for another" was still my value, and even more because "no god, no sin." So I think of Carlos and her work from time-to-time, and smile. I am a quiet fan who hopes she is living her best. Wendy Carlos is worthy.
