How is it even possible members of the Government can just hop from one UK news show to another deliberately misleading the public in this way? The country deserves so much better than this youtu.be/2L2z_i58q1k

@PeterStefanovic I strongly believe lying while holding public office should be a criminal offense. They'd, at least, be a lot more careful. With time, this would create incentives for candour and, hopefully, weed out the less ethical politicians, who would have to find work in public initiative (where there is no shortage of opportunities for serial liars).

@rbanffy @PeterStefanovic All liars in favor of making lying a criminal offense, signify by abstaining and being unavoidably out of town that day sufficient to prevent a quorum.

@Romaq @PeterStefanovic This will need a majority of non-liars, or a rule to be adopted at one point that creates an advantage to liars that sets the default vote to approval.

@rbanffy @PeterStefanovic Good luck with that. The point of an election is to see which liar among the candidates can pull the biggest con over the electorate. Almost invariably, the biggest charlatan wins. Almost.

Power attracts the corruptible. If you want to get rid of the kind of people attracted to power, pick the legislature from a phone book.

That would absolutely require an ammendment that would never pass. Until then, the point of the job of congress critter is to enjoy the perks of privilege over lessor beings and mortals.

"Lying," as such, is a symptom of the greater evils within the politician and as such is the least of your worries.

Take heart, however. There is at least one politician who's completely honest: Gil Fullbright! youtu.be/_kJFhc505cs
