@suziwalks Were you able to find the link? I know not all #Mastodon instances support quoting Toots like the one I'm on does. Wondering if that affects how others see my re-toot.

@mguhlin @suziwalks Well, I don't think quote tooting is evil in and of itself. I like sharing what someone else said and adding my $0.02. 😜 We do have it on qoto. See the quote marks as an option in the attached screenshot.

Each instance to its own but to discursively add my $0.02, I think it's worth remembering who the Mastodon natives are: largely folks who've found the structure of other social media platforms facilitated abusive behaviour. Quote-Tweeting (like sub-tweets) isn't discursive and invites a, "look at this fool & my hot-take" approach. Im guilty of this! I struggle to see what social benefit it offers that warrants the risk here.

@mguhlin @SandyKendell @suziwalks yeah, there have been Toots on that, too. I'd quote them, but... you'll see my interactions with them on my TL.
Some of extant community is very nervous about both scholarly and journalistic interest. Anyone going down that route should remind themselves of the late 20th CT. self-reflection that took place in anthropology and think twice. If anyone writes THAT paper, it should be a Mastodon native to avoid a zoological take.
@SandyKendell @suziwalks @mguhlin 100%, although screen-shots are frownd upon in most instances & likely to lead somone to point that out. That's the mix we twitter folk aren't used to: system regulation/design, admin oversight, community/cultural policing.
