Who is more hypocrite here?
I'd say the Linux's leaders that, gamed like noobs, blame the hackers that outsmarted them proving that they rely on trust and that there is a huge lack of #security in the kernel development process.
They blame the hackers.
Easy target.
But the greatest hypocrisy here is pretending these scolars were the first to introduce vulnerabilities fooling them.

Who is blaming them? What do you mean with blame?
From what I have seen, the hackers have demonstrated that they are willing to submit malicious code to get fame. The Linux community reacts by calling out that behavior and defaulting to not trusting these people and their submissions.
No one asked for an apology. No one gets sued.
Also the hackers have not contributed anything of value. You yourself said it is not news. They have nothing to offer as a solution.
The #Linux "community" is blaming them.
In fact, what they did proved an obvious vulnerability, but such proof is not worthless.

It's always funny to look at the affiliations of the LF's board of directors and of the members of the Technical Advisory Board.
Because they proved to the rest of the world that they can be gamed by kids and that their security is can be easily subverted.
