Read some plan9 docs yesterday (about the whole system philosophy). Really inspiring on how we could dynamically assemble various computers/machines into an unified system.
But it seems a quite esoteric / niche system.
Candid question: What is missing for the « average citizen » to benefit from this (harness the capabilities of all its devices, wether it’s small cards, big computer, phones/tablet, etc.)

A better plan9 distribution, or plan9 protocol implementations in popular OSes (or both) ?

@0gust1 popular OSes already often have 9p implementations, since it's still used, for example, to mount filesystems from virtual machines on the host on Linux sometimes
The problem integrating modern systems into a plan9 ecosystem is not a protocol implementation, it's trivial to implement and very simple. The problem is that most things that exist in computing at this point do not expose simple plaintext filesystems.
