I'm seeing comments from the crowd saying "isn't it exciting being here at the start?"

Guys, please remember has been here and in use for years, not just sitting empty, waiting for you to discover it.

Every major digital migration I've seen has had moments of tension as different approaches and cultures collide. So it would be a good start if we all took extra care not to sound like colonisers disregarding the existence of the natives who've been here forever.

@Spinybadger I get the feeling for the most part it's just excitement rather than any intentional colonialist 'this is ours/you're my wife now dave' thought process. But that may be just me. Let them have their excitement eh?

@nickwillow69 I think it is, and it's great to see the enthusiasm, which bodes well for the long term. But perception matters. With servers creaking under the strain and refugees still pouring in (protect our borders, etc), we do need to remember that this nice new place is actually someone else's house.

Just asking people to be aware. The more care we take now, the smoother the transition will be.

@Spinybadger loving the profile picture by the way, Avon was my first antihero/boycrush

@Spinybadger LOL speak for yourself … oh you did. 🤭

Just so you know I have been on mastodon before it existed 😇

@Spinybadger As much as I'm trying to get into the groove of the place, like anything, when the population increases, the vibe changes.

It's a hard one to navigate, but Mastodon will have to change to exist in the post-Twitter world, but, at the same time, there needs to be something preserved from what existed before.

As much as I've had my account for 4 years, it was more a placeholder, waiting for the day Twitter died, so I'm learning about, and making my own mark on, Mastodon.
