This is an interesting reflection on Vance's idiotic railing against not having kids

Dropping a new track...as the kids say

A spot of self-penned Southern Psychedelic Madchester Rock

"Never Grows Old" completes my Genre Fluid album, which has been a work in progress for about a year.

Great news!! Pres Biden has signed into law the Advance Act, to accelerate the development/deployment of advanced civilian nuclear reactors. An overwhelming Congressional bi-partisan bicameral majority has agreed!

The message has finally sunk in ... a message that even bitter enemies can agree on.... Nuclear energy is our future!

Back to poor numbers last night but some infrequent visitors were welcome

1) a blousy SCARLET TIGER, flashing a bit of underskirt

2) a handsome BUFF ERMINE

3) a white-peppery SINGLE DOTTED WAVE

From Dr. David Putrino, Director of Rehabilitation Innovation for the Mount Sinai Health System, and a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation & Human Performance at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai:

"We need to be very, very firm with our messaging that there is no such thing as a mild SARS-CoV-2 infection. There is no such thing as a SARS-CoV-2 infection that does NOT have prolonged consequences.”

British biochemist Ida Maclean was born #OTD in 1877.

She was the first woman admitted to the London Chemical Society. She conducted significant research on fatty acids and sterols, contributing to the understanding of biochemistry's foundational elements. She came to be regarded as an authority on biochemistry, and her 1943 monograph The Metabolism of Fat was the first published of Methuen's series Monographs on Biochemical Subjects.

It’s neoliberalism that has failed. Now we need an alternative, and Labour does not have it taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/0. Labour’s failure is inevitable, because like the Tories is is neoliberal to its core and thinks that government cannot work. It is truly bizarre that our choice in this election is between two parties that do not believe in government.

#AcademicVenting Anyway, here a nice comment piece by Polly Toynbee

“Tories and their pollsters see as clear as day that the growth in highly educated citizens, above the OECD average, is a social and political revolution not in their favour: the more educated people are, the less likely they are to vote for what John Stuart Mill called “the stupidest party”.”

How could it be I've never heard of the US State Dept's Bureau of Intelligence & Research?

"INR is the Cassandra of American intelligence, and it earned that reputation the hard way."

They succeeded in some famous examples where the CIA failed.

There are great lessons here in keeping organizations small & individuals responsible, though frankly, having worked on spaceflight missions, I've known this little truth for a long time.

“I want children. I want a house. I want to plant tomatoes... but the most important thing is to end the war.”

These were the words of Ukrainian medic Iryna Tsybukh.

Yesterday she was killed on the Kharkiv front.

First Privet Hawk-moth of the year, Sphinx ligustri, in our garden last night. The largest of the British moths, can be up to 120mm wingspan.

Some years I've seen several on the same evening along with a variety of the other Hawk-moths. But, 2024 is not proving a very good year for any of the moths here, so far :-(

Please repost: The Coupled Model Intercomparison Panel is explicitly searching for candidates who are based in countries not currently represented by the Panel (i.e. Australia, Japan, Europe, and North America) and particularly encourages applications from "Least Developed Countries", "Landlocked Developing Countries", and "Small Island Developing States" to join the CMIP Core Panel. Self-nominations are possible.

Statements from countries in the global North about "regrettable" or "horrifying" outcomes occurring during a rolling genocide that they have either done nothing halt, or worse, have actively fueled, should be viewed as nothing more than counterrevolutionary propaganda. Please stop treating them as acts of bravery or indications of a policy reversal - it's ass covering at best, presumably so they can get back to the business of profiting off death.

Please reboost!
