Purism, a company (?) that makes money for giving you access to

- a mail server
- a VPN
- Matrix
- Mastodon

their favorite repetition is "not locked-in to one technology company"

sigh.

@pixel
At this point purism appears to be a bad actor in the disguise of a good one.
I am loosing faith in the project and the sincerity of it.

@TheGnuMaster the model feels super sketchy too.

Like, if they would do something beneficial, they'd offer the services without hiding most of it behind a paywall.

Social and Chat are free, but they are so many buttons with "spend x money", they just want to grab your cash.

@pixel what do you think of Brave and Basic Attention Token, or Steemit as possible ways for making money for Free Software Projects?

@TheGnuMaster I haven't really heard a lot of positive things about Brave and BAT recently

and in general, if your users stand behind you, any basic donation model will work to keep a service alive. Don't hand a product to people, share services with them and get them invested in the ecosystem.

That's how you'll get support from a sizable amount of people.
