Regarding Transnistria, the Russian-backed separatists and military commanders are now complaining that the situation is very tense, and the newly elected Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, has expressed the need for demilitarization by withdrawing Russian troops and demilitarizing Transnistria. Transnistria is a problem created by the Russians near the border in the 1990s, and it should have been demilitarized and de-occupied long ago. The Russians have turned Transnistria into a large military base with large army depots (Kobasna), etc. By demilitarizing Transnistria, a lot of Russian ammunition and other resources can be taken and used against them, which is what the Russians are complaining about. Of course, this does not guarantee that all of this will be done, and we are not saying that the Armed Forces will demilitarize Transnistria, but we are very pleased with the attitude of the new Moldovan government.
