Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. lawmakers in Washington, D.C. on September 21, 2023. He urged them to approve additional funding for Ukraine's defense.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Zelenskyy told him, "If we don't get help, we will lose the war."
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican, said he would not support the $24 billion aid package for Ukraine until the Biden administration takes more action to address illegal immigration.
McCarthy said he had a "good" and "productive" conversation with Zelenskyy, but he also said he asked Zelenskyy a number of questions about Ukraine's commitment to fighting corruption.

The US State Department believes that in the coming weeks, Russia will likely have less leverage over Ukraine's grain exports through the Black Sea.
According to James O'Brien, head of the State Department's Office of Sanctions Coordination, more ships will be able to leave Ukrainian ports, and rising costs may force Moscow to reconsider its refusal to accept the grain deal.
"Ukraine already has several ships that have left ports and remain in territorial waters," he said.
The second factor, in his opinion, is that Russian attacks on Ukrainian ships will have a negative impact on pricing, which will lead to higher tariffs for insurers, which will increase costs for Russia.

🔔 The number of the day is 3,000,000.
3,000,000 hectares of Ukrainian forests are affected by the war.
This is almost a third of all forests in Ukraine. Or practically the size of Moldova!
In total, during the full-scale invasion, the Russians committed more than 2,500 environmental crimes. But they caused damage to Ukrainian nature to the tune of over two trillion hryvnias.
