In the middle of the ruins, a police officer from Odesa found a dog that had been abandoned in Kherson. The dog's owners had left him with their neighbors before their homes were destroyed by Russia, forcing them to evacuate. The dog was tied up in the ruins and was miraculously still alive. The police officer took the dog in and named him Black. With the care of the police officer, Black quickly recovered from the experience and his owners eventually came to pick him up.
