Tyra, a volunteer and paramedic, was one of the 11 women honored at the White House on Wednesday with the prestigious International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and First Lady Jill Biden were in attendance to recognize the women for their efforts in defending human rights around the world. Blinken praised the awardees for their work in exposing Russian atrocities in Ukraine, advocating for equal opportunities for women and girls in Mongolia, defending democracy in the Central African Republic, and standing up for indigenous lands in Costa Rica. He also highlighted their commitment to protecting the rights of refugees, people with disabilities, and the LGBT community.
