Russian Patriarch Kirill has expressed his concern to Pope Francis and the United Nations Secretary General about the expulsion of Russian priests from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a monastery that has been in existence since the 11th century and is considered the cradle of Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian civilizations. He argued that there was no legal basis for the termination of the contract with the monastery and accused the Ukrainian authorities of disregarding human rights and freedoms.
