Yesterday, the street of Suzdal was renamed after Oleksa Hirnyk, a Ukrainian dissident, political prisoner, and Hero of Ukraine. He was known for his act of self-immolation near Shevchenkos grave in protest against the Russification of Ukraine on the 60th anniversary of the declaration of Ukraines independence by the Central Rada.
