Hearings regarding Ukraine's lawsuit against Russia have commenced in The Hague at the UN International Court of Justice.
Ukraine is presenting evidence to support its claim that Russia manipulated its justification for a full-scale invasion by citing the need to protect people in Donbas from genocide.
This lawsuit was filed by Ukraine on February 26, 2022, and it has garnered support from 33 other countries, with the court recognizing interventions from 32 countries after the United States had reservations regarding one of the convention's articles.
The court will deliberate on arguments from both parties over a two-week period. Leading the Ukrainian delegation is Anton Korynevich, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, while the Russian delegation is headed by Gennady Kuzmin, Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
