@TheOldGuy I caught myself calling one of my cats by the name of a cat that died 3 years ago, but I *did* realise my mistake.

@Nazani my father is getting a bit senile. Has never gotten names mixed up but has problems with words. But then he is 97. And this morning I got the news. He was in the hospital for a UTI and they discovered a metastasized cancer in his stomach. But at least he has lived a pretty full life. His wife plans to care for him at home. I think it will be a bit much for her. She is 75.

@TheOldGuy
Sorry to hear that. So much depends on if he's still ambulatory & his frame of mind. His wife will almost certainly need some help at some point.

@Nazani That's the problem. He is nor ambulatory. He got T-boned about 5 years ago by a speeding driver who ran the light, and broke 3 vertebraes. Because of his age they never healed. He can only get out of bed with his turtle shell on.

@TheOldGuy
I'm surprised she's coped with that situation thus far. My Dad wasn't a lot bigger than I am, but I couldn't even lift him into a wheelchair.

@Nazani She has actually been taking him to a restaurant once a week. You can imagine what that entails.

Shortly after they were married she had to have brain surgery and he took care of her. I think that is part of it. And they have said 2 months.

@TheOldGuy I hope she'll have someone to help her after he's gone.

@Nazani Neighbors. It's a very small town on Vancouver Island. Small towns people look out for each other.
