Falsification of history remembers not only "1984" but was also a trusted mechanism under Stalin as well as in other brutal dictatorships as in North Korea.

Addition to previous report. Denial began in November 2023 at the initiative of the Communist Party. A working group was created for a "possible revision of assessments of the circumstances of the tragedy of Katyn". In the summer of 2022, by decision of the Ministry of Culture, the Polish flag disappeared from the memorial in Katyn “due to the hostile position” of the country, and the State Duma called to remove the entire memorial.

“We know almost everything about this crime: who exactly committed it, with what weapon,” states Alexander Cherkasov, from the liquidated Memorial Human Right Center. Those who say that this is falsification take us back to 1943, back to Stalin’s falsification. Denial of the crime in Bucha is the same. Denial of Stalin's crimes is an attempt to reinforce the denial of modern war crimes."

“We don't have any doubts, we were all able to familiarize ourselves with these documents,” points out historian Andrei Zubov, referring to the declassified documents from the WWII that have been previously published and the most important handed over to Poland. “What is happening now is an example of the degradation of power and the idea of power as the guardian of truth.”

The mass murders of Katyn committed by Stalin's executioners were never punished, nor compensated. It seems that Putin attempts to shed his responsibility for the mass murder of Bucha and all other war crimes in the same way.
