NATO countries will insure long-term assistance to Ukraine in case Trump comes to power.

NATO countries are going to insure long-term support for Ukraine against the backdrop of the strengthening of the positions of right-wing forces in Europe and the possible victory of Donald Trump in the upcoming US presidential election, informed sources told The Wall Street Journal.

According to them, at the upcoming summit of the alliance, which will be held on July 9-11 in Washington, NATO will establish the post of person responsible for providing assistance to Ukraine. This post will be taken by a high-ranking official who will work in Kyiv. He will focus on Ukraine's long-term needs for military sector modernization and non-military support.

In addition, the bloc will create a new command in Wiesbaden, Germany, to coordinate the supply of military equipment to Kyiv and train Ukrainian troops.

The operation, called "NATO - security and training assistance for Ukraine", will involve about 700 military personnel from the United States and other countries of the alliance. They will take over most of the work that the US military has been doing since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.

These steps will help NATO better coordinate the efforts of Western countries to provide military support to Ukraine, as well as make the Ukrainian army more similar to the armed forces of the alliance.

The alliance itself will be responsible for providing assistance to Ukraine. "Therefore, even if the United States reduces or stops supporting these efforts, they will not end," explains former US Permanent Representative to NATO Ivo Daalder. The plans were prepared for several months, but work on them was accelerated after US President Joe Biden's unsuccessful speech at the debate with Trump on June 27.
