100 Days of Authoritarianism:

I introduced a resolution calling on Congress to impeach Trump. Several of my Democratic colleagues in the Michigan House signed on as well. We turned it in last Thursday, and it should be read in today.

As state legislators, we have a close connection to the people of Michigan. They are worried about the future of our democracy. As we have been for months, we continue to ring the alarm bell. It will take all of us to stand up and fight.

It is the working class and vulnerable communities that are suffering most as a result of the Trump administration's actions. Congress must do everything it can to raise awareness and fight back. It is unthinkable that a president would send innocent people to a foreign country’s prison known for its human rights violations.

The Constitution clearly protects due process and free speech for all U.S. residents. Our government is built on a system of checks and balances, and President Trump's disregard for a 9-0 Supreme Court decision should have us all concerned. This act alone is an impeachable offense.

I am committed to fighting Trump through my office as a State Representative. It will take all of us to fight fascism. We must protest, boycott, and organize. We must stand in solidarity with workers/unions who decide to stand up to Trump by withholding their labor.
