@TheOldGuy in the Eddas, it says the gods intentionally lie to man. They're not always honest. And they're not always kind. Because belief without reason is as good as a lie. Because beliefs are not truths. They don't want us to blankly believe them because that is a weakness. Just like Lord Odin with his one eye, we should always have one eye open to the external world of reason and another closed to the internal world of belief. That is how one becomes wise and not a gullible fool.
