Title X Is on the Brink and It’s Sabotage.
For a year, the Trump administration has tried to kill Title X — the nearly 60‑year‑old program that provides birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing to millions. They tried defunding it, firing the staff who run it, and eliminating it in the budget. They failed every time.
So now they’re trying something new: bureaucratic sabotage.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) delayed the annual funding application for months — then dumped it on clinics late this past Friday, giving them one week to complete what normally takes 90 days. TEN staffers are assigned to review applications from 85+ grantees serving thousands of clinics. If they can’t finish in time, funding stops on April 1. Clinics go from fully funded to zero overnight.
That’s the funding cliff — and it’s intentional.
If HHS doesn’t act, over two million people could lose access to contraception, cancer screenings, and basic preventive care. Senators and House members are demanding an immediate one‑year extension for all current grantees. HHS has not responded.
Republicans created this program, and it was supported across party lines for decades without controversy—until a far‑right movement (The Heritage Foundation) decided women’s independence was the problem.
Now is the moment to push back.
📞 What You Can Do Right Now
1. Call Congress
Dial the Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224‑3121
Tell your Senators and Representative:
“Demand that HHS immediately issue a one‑year full funding extension for all Title X grantees.”
2. Support the People Fighting This
- National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA). They represent Title X clinics and are leading the fight to stop the funding cliff.
