In terms of that old teleportation question about whether the consciousness transfers if your atoms are perfectly reconfigured I've actually flip flopped since taking up a physicalist position.

I used to believe that you're consciousness wouldn't transfer but now I'm certain that it would. Assuming physicalism your consciousness is simply stored in your brain and whatever it is that makes you a conscious being would be reproduced after the teleportation effectively transfering your consciousness.

However, now we run into the issue of what would to happen if we were to create 2 perfect instances of someone, following this logic we would have bodies sharing the same consciousness. Which is not necessarily impossible in itself but once you get into the issue of the bodies going processing information not privvy to the other body we run into some issues. This seems entirely alien to me as a consciousness inside a single body but perhaps it's not impossible for a shared consciousness to act on different information depending on which body its in. Maybe in effect you're creating a discrete but double consciousness.

No idea how the fuck mastodon works but would love to hear some people's thoughts about this.
