the vast majority of us private individuals don't really *need* the Internet as such. it's mostly about convenience and amusement.

cellphones? it has saved lives and helped parents find their kids, so it's arguable that it has added value for the ordinary person.

but the Internet? there are a *few* cases where it's added value, such as video calls with far-away family members. i don't think social media has really added any value at all. online news?

i mean, frankly, it was less distracting when the news was something you consumed once in the morning (the newspaper) and once in the evening (the evening news), and then just went about with your life.

TV added some value, but also got us addicted to screens for the first time. it was a premonition of things to come.

@thor So, do you see a way out of this? I mean, once a society has widely adopted certain technologies (which at its present stage does more harm than good) and became dependant on it, It's very hard to reverse this process and get back to a world where such technologies has not much significance.
