I just completed my 6th term #Ungrading and I have to confess it was the hardest and most contentious. Two key takeaways.
1) Ungrading with a focus on student equity, agency, and learning is a continuously evolving and requires continuous refinement. I think back to traditional grading policies and how easy (yet arbitrary) it was to decide how many points and what structures were accepted for things (i.e. homework policies, test grade % etc..)
2) as I prepare for the next cohort of students and next iteration, I am refining contract grading and being more transparent with course expectations, students' own goals and the activities and tasks in the course designed to meet the learning goals. It has taken much longer than I expected and a great deal of feedback from our entire team to revise this document, and which reflect the required thoughtfulness and reflection needed to progress in ungrading.
Attaching the current iteration of the doc, grade justification will be based on this. Feedback and thoughts always appreciated
