@ninokadic @academicchatter my recent timelines for publication have been over 2 years. Have had instances of 6-9 months for initial review and rejection without comment in some cases. I definitely would reach out to the editor after 90 days of no response. Most better journals will let you know within 2-3 months max

In my experience, 3 months is about the average time and I have waited for up to 9 months, too. But I think you can inquire about the status of your paper after 3 months.
