As more walls are raised around gardens and users are even more aggressively preyed upon by greedy corpo overlords, I feel it becomes an #InfoSec community responsibility to arm normal users, not just the tech-savvy, with knowledge and alternatives to break the cycle of exploitation we know drives this business model.
@mttaggart And if any IT professional told to develop a service that requires a smartphone could tell them where to stick it, that would be great too.
@admitsWrongIfProven @mttaggart I feel the same way about services that require a laptop or desktop computer. If you want to reach the most people, mobile devices are the way to go.
@bhawthorne @mttaggart Well, from a privacy perspective, phones are horrible. Apps can just not work if you don't give permission to scrape contacts... wow.
So yeah, to reach, both should be available, but it's a lot easier to anonymize your pc!
@admitsWrongIfProven @mttaggart I’m not quite sure what is so horrible about mobile devices compared to desktop devices as far as privacy goes. I don’t use apps that require access to my contacts, and it has never been a problem for me.
As for anonymity (which is separate from privacy), it depends on the OS and apps you are running on your device and the services you are accessing that determines whether it is horrible.

And to "your device", well i don't run any system on what i don't have.
