I don't know this for a fact but I strongly suspect the "legitimate interest" cookies allow the usual suspects to do all their nasty business even if you refuse the normal cookies.

And then if you actually go through the trouble of unchecking the legitimate interest cookies then that makes your signature unique and therefore just as easily trackable.

I also suspect this is 100% intentional on the part of the groups who lobbied for the legitimate interest clause to that cookie consent law.

If companies understood what was legitimate, we would not need regulation, the environment would be pristine and my bum would smell like roses...
