You can hit, then hide away, only identifying part of your identity being a flag or police/military uniform. Someone irrelevant using the same flag gives the attacker cover by the way of normalisation and misdirection of target of potential revenge. Exactly like any other military apparel. Or rape jokes.

@admitsWrongIfProven Yeah, but also think about far right militias and racist lynchings. US officially endorses many of its massacres and wars. If Mexican American war is a point of pride for Americans, and if current wave of immigration of Latin peoples is an "invasion", who says any random mob of nationalists killing people isn't a continuation of US tradition? And, more obviously, ICE kidnapping people is possible only through US nation state structures, usually identified by that flag.
