Somebody today posted about including your preferred #pronouns in your #bio. (I'm sorry I've lost the toot, I looked!)

I've resisted for a very long time, but today I was convinced because of a single phrase: "make this the norm".

Right. Because anyone who "has to" include their pronouns is feeling super awkward by doing so.

I have no idea why it's taken me this long to figure out that, by us all doing it, it's a way to care for others that directly impacts them.

Off to fix that now...

@cjbooker I offer an alternative view that not everyone on here wants to offer up their gender as a data point for others to attach their prejudices to. I know that at the current moment not sharing pronouns is seen as rejecting the rights of people to be addressed with their gender identity, but I think one should not have to reveal ones gender to participate in the discussion. It is why I have listed ze/zem in my profile. These are not the pronouns I use IRL, but I choose to participate in this online space without declaring a gender.

@antares Fear of prejudice is a valid reason to hide your gender, especially considering that ya, we do live in a world where people can be pretty ignorant about filtering what you say based on that.

I think your solution is elegant - it cares for those who are in that awkward spot where they NEED to post their genders, but doesn't cost you anything to do so.
