I am reeling at the extent of psychological pain from witnessing the chasm between (1) current research on incidence and long-term impairment, disability, and early death caused by SARS-CoV-2 in the months/years following initial infection, and (2) our collective denial and unwillingness to do anything about it.
I get that we're all traumatized by these pandemic years, but feels like we've given up on crossing the finish line in one piece.
The acceptance that _this is where we are_ eludes me.
@themaikimo this is Covid; there is no finish line. You cannot cross the finish line in one piece if there will never be a finish line to cross.
@themaikimo the ability of coronavirus to adapt and reinfect make them very different from the three you name. Surviving polio or measles or smallpox was enough to provide you with lifetime protection. It appears that people will catch Covid over and over again.
@antares I have lived through multiple finish lines: polio, measles, smallpox ... A SARS-2 finish line is likely one day, too.
