Just thinking about how attached some cis people get to the idea that a person has a Real Name or a Legal Name and this is permanent and forever, like... my siblings in Christ, it's just what their parents put on their birth certificate.

It's definitely not some mystical name that they've had since the beginning of time. Most of us have stories of what our parents nearly named us. I was nearly Emily. Or Timothy.

I used to work in perinatal, I've seen whiteboard polling for a born baby's name.
