It is easy to have ties to shitty companies like Amazon. Even after deleting prime and moving away from using their site for much more than video I already paid for on there.

But I still have my server on AWS and technically an account on there.

That will be changing very soon.

The time is now for drawing motherfucking lines in the sand. We don't do business with deportation terrorists. We will not support these companies.

@slackz I hope no one gets mad at me, but I use amazon, mainly for books, I'd like to give my money to more ethical companies but couldn't find a valid alternative so far (maybe I didn't look hard enough).

Do you know of some good alternatives?

@arteteco I know this is really hard. My partner still utilizes amazon for the same reason (we haven't talked about this latest news). There are are some amazing publishers for tech with No Starch Press (they even do free pdf with book purchase type deals), AK Press for radical lit (akpress.org/), Powell's Books online (though they certainly are no shining example of an ethical corp, but at least not aiding ICE).

I hear you, it's tough. Alternatives exist though. We gotta fight

@arteteco p.s. no, def not mad. I currently have a server right now in AWS. I've been meaning to switch for a while with all the news about Amazon's labor practices, but haven't had the time with other things going on. I really need to prioritize it now though.

I am looking at several great options I've tried.

Brian Cantrill (from #joyent) gave a great talk about principles within tech and specifically talks about Amazon and other modern companies.
