One thing I installed when I upgraded my workstation is a whiteboard table. It is fairly inexpensive if you just buy the foil and tape it onto the desk. Any other notes that need more space can be done on the other whiteboards within the space.

This way you get the benefits of handwriting and reusability. Plus it is far more quicker to jot something onto the desk, then to open up a digital doc or a journal.

It has different form of security. You can definitely clear the history quicker than in a journal. Also to save data it has to be done with a camera. The downside is that you cannot adjust already saved data easily like in a journal.

It can be argued that is more eco-friendly to paper journals, since you aren't killing trees.

That's quite an interesting approach! I have a whiteboard myself for brainstorming and physics, and it is indeed superior to digital format in certain aspects.

For me saving and freferencing journal pages is more important, but I can definitely see the appeal of the whiteboard.
