One cool thing about changing jobs in the States is that you get new health insurance, which means—on top of other frustrations—that your deductible and coinsurance reset. So all that money I spent at urgent care and the hospital when I had pneumonia last winter? Gone. Doesn’t count. Deductible restarts at zero—even though it’s the same damn insurance company. I have to spend another $4,000 out of pocket before full coverage kicks in again.
