Go thou to the ant: A comparative biomechanical analysis of locomotion in Hymenoptera (Hexapoda) https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.02.24.529971v1?med=mas
This is cool but I do find it funny they are bragging about how ants can beat bees ... running on the ground.
I mean even I have to call bluff on that one.
"Based on our comparative kinematic analysis of Formicidae for level, straight-line locomotion in a broad phylogenetic context, we observe that ants are distinctly capable runners. No sampled hymenopteran paralleled the body-scaled speed of ants. "
@futurebird @rmflight @biorxivpreprint Did they also look at flying?
@michaelgemar Lol no.
@futurebird @rmflight @biorxivpreprint
Mutilids are at least flightless, but I hear you on the rest of the group.
@futurebird ants have honey pot ants and silk though
@biorxivpreprint a key insight
@biorxivpreprint hey @futurebird, this preprint looks like it might be interesting to you!
At least based on my reading of the abstract.
