Wow this is eye opening, so glad I'm using linux and I'm not as pro as ppl think. I'm completely newbie but I desperately need useful OS w/ a cheap price.
~~using apple with standard mcintosh is fine. Just do a tcpdump or dns log while doing a regular task like playing game and browsing for a week if you're concerned with being tracked. And add that list off contacted domain to your adblock host list. You're done. In case of an update (which will most likely bring a new tracking feature) just do another tcp dump and you're good again. Same applies to every prioprietary software "if you can't get the source, reverse engineer it"~~
Good to know that you already swallowed the first most obvious redpill. Cheers!
