was reading through the tvtropes entry for one of the new "star wars" movies and found another great little detail that flies in the face of the attempted wokification of the franchise

apparently rey is depicted as having some kind of special connection to the dark side, and is able to easily, even unintentionally draw on it to the point of accidentally conjuring force-lightning. the reason for this? she's palpatine's granddaughter lmao

it's already well-established canon (muh midichlorians) that force power runs in families (tho idk if that counts as genetic necessarily, at least in terms of the humans' genetics -- maybe the midichlorians' genetic affect the force-connection of the person they inhabit. however i find it absolutely hilarious that, instead of even attempting to retcon out/silently ignore that uncomfortable "heritibility of protagonist-nature"/portray it as something Bad (i.e. "muh Jedi Privilege"), they *doubled down* and went straight for "your heritage affects your power AND your proclivity to evil (altho with vigilance and self-discipline it can be held at bay)" -- which is not very compatible with the tabula rasa dogma of wokism

idk if this stuff was planted by a rebellious writer or if they accidentally blundered their way into being subversive. i almost hope it's the latter because that's a great meta-statement in and of itself

@velartrill the new star wars movies are - not to compare star wars with tolkien - like the new lotr series (or whatever format it is).
it's so much against the natural laws and principles of the world they are set in, it's having comic value. i'd say the writers are just morons.

@bonifartius the tolkien shit is especially upsetting because they're making a mockery of his values. at least george lucas is still alive to say "yeah sure that's okay" or "stop it, not cool jaybrams" -- tolkien is being, shall we say, appropriated by people who want him and his work to be reduced to another mindless symbol of political correctness. there's "death of the author" but then there's "insulting everything the author held dear and pissing on his grave"
