@mangeurdenuage how do you store optical discs? i figure these wallets where the discs are stored in contact with other plastic are shit. jewelcases feel like the best option, but they need so much space :/
@mangeurdenuage thanks for the detailed answer! :)
maybe i'll just go for the slim jewel cases, those feel like a good compromise for space vs. good storage.
such atmosphere controlled systems are optimum of course, i guss just re-burning discs every x years is the more cost effective alternative that'll have to do :)
regarding fire, storing an additional backup in a car or something alike is "offsite" as well - even if the atmosphere is shit there. maybe in a zip-lock bag with silica gel.
i really need to get this shit done routinely and proper.
I use paper/craft envelops for stuff I don't care much, like animu. As for important stuff yes non transparent jewelcases are the best.
I'll add Data support storage is a bit complicate.
You technically have to take into account air pressure/humidity and temperatures. There a box and rooms that I used in the day for that be it for optical, tape etc...
Rooms usually had a system to fill the room with inert gas to avoid fire spreading.
I wish atmosphere controlled cases would be accessible for a reasonable price to public, it's a must if you want to store data very long term.
