troff and it's preprocessors are top notch design and sorely under-appreciated imo. the preprocessors are bespoke languages for the task at hand vs. TeXs "everything is a nail"

@bonifartius @steph @SuperDicq Idk my main experience with roff has been writing man pages using OpenBSD's semantic macro set and it was thoroughly miserable, in the future I'm going to stick with a generator like scdoc or maybe a custom texinfo backend

@scathach @steph @SuperDicq maybe it's an aquired taste :) i haven't used the mandoc stuff of openbsd, i only know that they reimplemented a subset limited to manpage generation.
