Just so we're clear, we all know Google Reader was sacrificed so that AMP could live, right?

@braindouche I feel like it was a 1-2 punch of "They did a security/exposure (how many people could sue Google if Google Reader was being used by some asshole to get around a restraining order) to Making Money analysis... And then compared it to AMP... And the winner was clear at the same time ROI needs/goals started hitting."

@braindouche Everyone makes fun of Google for Suddenly Killing Things... But I feel like Google was one of the few DotComs to survive the DotBomb and "We're not gonna keep this alive unless it's making us money" was a huge and predictable part of that.

Meanwhile, Meta and Twitter have pretty much hit that wall hard and *gestures at all birdsite tweets* we're seeing how well they handled that...

While meta has spent 13 billion dollars on getting 35 people into its vr mmo and they still haven't quite invented legs and nobody is sure where all the money was spent.
