I'm not enough of an expert, but what struck me is that – for all we talk about the importance of the industrial revolution – the post WWII economic consensus was pretty amazing for growth. And that was social structure, I think, more than technology.

I've heard that, mainly applied to the hotter parts of America.

Possibly also malaria prevention, which was a big New Deal thing. It's why the Centers for Disease Control are in Atlanta, I've heard.
