over on #postnews they've fixed the profile URL issue (among other beta growing pains). So you can find me right here:

@rmayemsinger
Not to be annoying, but why not just Mastodon / Fediverse? #postnews seems like another walled garden, eager to get hold of people to monetize and manipulate. What's good about it?
@ceoln @rmayemsinger I am okay with Mastodon, but I think it needs some big changes. I wish the usernames would work across every server. I wish you could jump to either server easier, and I think servers need bigger general names. There's so many things with random names that make no sense, so it would work better to see separated as subjects.. or elect to see federated. Also, general folks don't know what the hell federated even means so, that should be updated/changed too.
Fair enough. For me, I've just about concluded that convenience at that level inevitably leads to things (like centralization and corruption and passive users and...) that just aren't worth it.
Things that are chaotic and make no sense are sometimes good. :)
And general folks can by-jiggety learn what "federated" means! {/old man yelling at cloud/}
@rmayemsinger
@phartsy You very seldom need to either type or remember a server name. Just type "#art" or "#rabbits" or whatever into search, and you'll see all matching posts that your server knows of; that will be a subset of all of those that exist, or course :), but it's enough to get started.
Then look at a few of the people who posted those things (on any server in the world, just by clicking), follow some of them, things that they boost (from anyone on any server) will appear in your feed, etc. Your network will grow fast! (And of course do look at Local and Federated now and then just for variety.)
At least that's how I've done it; maybe I've been lucky! Enforcing a single name across all servers would mean some Central Naming Authority, and that would make me nervous. It could probably be done in a safe way, but it feels sort of camel's-nose to me.
@ceoln I think that Mastodon will have its time right now, but at some point people will either go back to Twitter(which I suspect will be the case) or folks flock to Post, etc. I think Mastodon won’t change/update fast enough for most GENERAL people. I consider myself tech savvy and I still kind of get annoyed with little things here and there with the service, but I do appreciate that it’s not any ONE thing owned entirely, etc.
I would not actually be sad if most people decided to go somewhere else :) not everything is about size.
I would probably stay here.
There was a critical mass on Mastodon / Fediverse before the Great Migration, and I expect there still will be critical mass even if lots of people go back to Twitter or w/e. All good!
@ceoln Yeah, it wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. I’m honestly in a weird place. I loved Twitter for years and always said it was my “home” for news, social, and art.. but now I feel like I’m totally done with it and ready for change(or a new owner) and I’m just.. rethinking how I use social media in general. We will see.
@ceoln It’s “hard” because you have to make a point to type in the server. And remember the goofy name some have. Where as if you could just go to “servers” in a part of the app and then see, General/Art/Breaking News/Dogs/Cats, whatever it would be far better. Also, when I changed servers it wasn’t totally easy, it was kind of not totally clear at first, so I would like an easier way to make a “home” server, which is why having one username for all would work, I think.
