While I do agree with points 2 to 5, I don't on the first: The Dems as well are massively under the influence of extremely rich people. And I'd go as far as saying that this is not a small part of their failure to mobilise.
To me it seems more like part of the public said: 'Fuck it, if I don't trust either side to work in my interest, I'll stay home or try the crazy choice.'
